Speed Dating Icebreaker
The Speed Dating Icebreaker was my favorite activity this semester. This activity took place on the first day of classes and was used as a tool to get each student acquitanted with one another. As a teacher who generally teaches Freshman college students, the Speed Dating Icebreaker was a creative way to ensure that every student would get the opportunity to introduce themselves to everyone within the class and learn a fun fact about the other students.

Small Group Project and Television Episode Analysis
During week 6 of the semester, the students are required to present a group presentation exercising one specific concept that has been covered upto that point through the analysis of one movie. The students are strategically placed into groups of between 4-5 students and must give a 15-20 minute presentation of their concept and movie and write a 3-4 page paper detailing specific events throughout the movie where their selected concept is apparent. The purpose of this project is to give students the opportunity to work with students that they would not generally work with and to prepare the students for their individual Informative and Persuasive speeches. Before the Small Group Project is due, I show a television episode and give the students a handout with several questions as a guide of the analysis of the concept. I ask questions pertaining to concepts that I feel work well and those that do not to give the students the opportunity to see that all concepts do not apply for all movie selections. This semester I showed my students an episode of the Big Bang Theory. I have included both the prompt for the Small Group Project and questionnaire for The Big Bang Theory episode.

Persuasive Commercial
As a requirement for this course, students are required to present a Persuasive Speech using Monroe's Motivated Sequence. To prepare the students for the speech and familiarize them with Monroe's Motivated Sequence, I put the students into groups of 4-5 and assign them to create a commercial using Monroe's Motivated Sequence. I allow the students 10 minutes per 2 class periods to organize their commercials. After the second class period the students perform their commercials. Before I point out their strengths and weaknesses, I allow other students to critique each commercial. This activity gives the students a deeper insight to the use of Monroe's Motivated Sequence within Persuasion. I have included a copy of the assignment below.
